In the following video – which in fact is a demo video for one of my students – I give some examples on how to integrate Wes Montgomery style block chords into your comping. In the example I play block chords over “Song for my father”.
In the first part the block chord sequence is played over Fm7. Later in the video some ideas on how to play over Eb7 and Db7 are added.
Wes always substitutes Eb7 with Bbm7 / Db7 with Abm7 / and so on. He always plays the minor7th block chords over dominant7th chords.

Practise the given voicings slowly and don´t forget to transpose them into different keys as well…..
